Let America Be America Again

THE SKIN IM IN
In my skin you don’t know where I have been In my skin you wouldn’t understand What it takes to live in this country as a black man Constantly on alert, for false imprisonment False evidence placed that didn’t belong to me 200 years later and we’re still not free Cant even swim in a pool without cops being called on me But you brought me here stole my identity A stolen country, built with forced labor Give me a job, and you think you doing me favor Working me harder for substandard wages What really the solution, for the skin Im in Bottom line its never, changing Beneath this flesh is heart that beats like yours There’s no difference, so what the hell are you Fighting against me for? Are you intimated, fearful, or just remiss But whatever I am, injustice is the cause of this. -LR- |
